What is a neuromodulator or neurotoxin and what does it do?

Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated expressions can cause lasting frown lines. Botulinum toxin type-A acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting. Neuromodulators are FDA-approved prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions, so frown lines are softened and reduced.

Which product is best for me?

There are several products that can smooth lines currently on the market. Botox ®, Xeomin ®, Dysport® and Jeuveau ®.

All these products have the same active ingredient, take 3-14 days to fully kick in, and typically last 3-4 months. Dysport tends to take effect faster but spreads more. Xeomin is purified and tends to feel less heavy. Botox is best for migraines and joint injections. We are certified providers of several of these products. Ultimately, product choice can come down to personal preference.

What can I expect during treatment?

Treatment typically takes 30 minutes. This will include a complimentary consultation. You can look at before and after pictures and discuss your goals and your dose. An anatomy assessment will be completed and an evaluation with our medical director prior to injection.

How often do I need to get treated?

Results typically last 3-4 months. Most clients maintain their results by getting treated 3-4 times per year. If you have a big event coming up like a wedding for example, please plan your injections 6 weeks in advance.

Price. Is cheaper better?

When considering facial injections, you are not only paying for the medical service, but for the injector’s experience, education, knowledge of anatomy, and for quality product selection to obtain optimal results.

When you stay with the same injector, they can fine-tune your dose according to how your anatomy reacts. They will optimize placement and dosing customized to your individual needs.

We understand. It’s an expensive treatment. It’s tempting to price hunt, hop around and even go to the hottest deal, but cheapest is not always best--especially when it comes to your face. Unfortunately, we are seeing more frequent use of counterfeit products here on the island. Those create an unpredictable safety risk.

You should only find small variations in price among providers. Manufacturers have a uniform cost that providers pay. If the offer is much less than everywhere else, be suspicious. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. You may also want to consider Dose = Duration when making your decision. Some providers may offer smaller, less expensive doses. Those don’t offer the same effects, overall balanced look, or longevity.

How many units will I need?

FDA approval rate is 64 units for frown lines, forehead, and crow’s feet. This will vary according to age, muscle strength, depth of wrinkles, and eyebrow and eyelid anatomy.

What areas can be treated?

“Eleven” frown lines between the eyes, forehead, crow’s feet, eyebrow lift, Masseter (jaw slimming and for headaches from clenching your teeth), chin, frown Lines, gummy smile, lip flip, eye jelly roll, bunny lines platysma (neck).
